Our adult members host shopping nights at our Thrift Shop to provide families with the opportunity to shop at no cost. We work with the following community organizations:

• Tustin Unified School District
• Orange County Rescue Mission
• Family Promise: House of Ruth
• Mary’s Path
• Sea Glass & Riptide Residential Homes
• Think Education (formally Think Together)

Assistance League® of Tustin’s Waste Not Want Not philanthropy ensures that many of the donated items that we cannot sell in the Thrift Shop find a home. 

“The Giving Closet” is a part of this philanthropy that distributes items that we cannot sell, but are in good condition, and distributes them to the working poor in our area. 

Here is how it works:

Donated items are sorted in our shop.  Items we don’t sell, like kids clothing, are set aside along with other items that are in good shape but have small stains or are a little worn.  Clearance $2 items that don’t sell are also bagged every two weeks and included in the Giving Closet distribution. 

Every Monday, these items are taken to the Tustin Family & Youth Center for distribution.  Once a month the items are taken to local churches to distribute there. 

All left-over clothing and linens are recycled.  Assistance League® of Tustin receives five cents for every pound collected by a textile recycling company.
