This year is going to look different than last previous years. As an organization, our focus will be on Food, Clothing and Shelter for our community. Some of our philanthropies will be paused, we will have opportunities for new ones, and the Thrift Store will continue to be our most important endeavor as money earned from the Thrift Store keeps all of our philanthropies funded.
Operation School Bell®
Each year Assistance League® of Tustin dresses hundreds of students in the Tustin Unified School District. They receive a full week of new school approved uniforms and a new book through this valuable program.
Operation School Bell II®
Assistance League of Tustin also provides new school clothing to several hundred middle and high school students each year.
We provide sleeping bags and warm clothing to 5th Grade Tustin Unified students who attend Outdoor Science Education trips.
This teen drug, alcohol and mental health program is offered in partnership with Tustin Unified School District to middle and high school students who are identified with an emotional or mental health concern or who have been suspended for first time possession or use of these substances. Intervention and education are included, and parents are given the tools to recognize symptoms and respond when their children are at risk of substance abuse.
Hearts of Hope/Shelter Assistance
Assistance League of Tustin provides food and other living essentials to two outstanding shelter houses in Tustin (O.C. Rescue Mission and Mary’s Shelter). Additionally, Assistance League of Tustin members make periodic visits to Cranbrook Retirement Home in Tustin to offer friendship and entertainment to the residents. We are newly partnering with Operation Warm Wishes, a wonderful local organization helping to feed hungry people and provide other support to those in need.
Assisteens® Buddy Program
This innovative program provides service and support to American Youth Soccer Organization, Blind Children’s Learning Center and Aqua Achievers Swim Program through Blue Buoy Swim School by partnering Assisteens with disabled children and adults in need.
Friends in Service
Assisteens participate in a wide range of community projects that include: helping at the continuing education high school; painting pumpkins with students at Halloween; singing Christmas carols at retirement homes and shelters during the holidays; and giving local students both Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day cards, and Easter baskets.
Adult and teen members of Assistance League of Tustin participate in a wide variety of Community Service events including:
The Tustin Public Schools Foundation: Dino Dash
The Tustin Community Foundation: Paper Football, Car Show, D’Vine Wine and Concerts in the Park
The Tustin Area Council for the Fine Arts: Art Walk and Broadway in the Park
Local Elementary and Middle School Support: Carnivals and Registration (as we have manpower for)
